Buff Bride

April 7, 2009

Everyone knows that the stereotypical bride needs to be on some crazy diet and exercise regime so that she can fit into her perfect size 6 wedding dress, right?

I’ve never been overweight.  I ran cross country and track throughout high school and college.  I still run a little bit and kinda somewhat try to watch what I eat.  However, I’ve always stressed about losing an extra 10 pounds to be my “ideal” weight. I thought for sure that once I got engaged I’d be super motivated to go on a strict healthy diet and get back to running 60 miles a week.  Well, engagement day came and passed, and I was not really motivated. We had over a yeaaar until the wedding. I had plennnnty of time.

Well, now we are approaching the 5 month mark. Our engagement is about 2/3 of the way over.  My fittings will begin in THREE MONTHS!  And I have been getting LAZY! I’ve only been running maybe 2-3 times a week, and very short distances.  My eating habits are getting dangerous. McDonald’s fries? Multiple desserts in one day? Loads of carbs and hardly any servings of fruits and veggies?  This is bad, people.  Now I don’t even care about losing weight, I just want my dress to FIT.

I don’t know if I’ve actually gained any substantial weight as a result of all of this bad behaviour, but I’m sure I will if I continue like this.  It’s not even so much about how I look on “the big day”. It’s about how I will feel.  And if I’m exercising and eating right, I know I will feel good. And that’s what I want.  So maybe once the weather warms up for real and we get out of this nasty, cold, rainy stuff, I will feel motivated and get out there!  Time to get myself back in shape!

My fiance and I are training together to run a half-marathon this summer before our wedding. I find I’m most motivated when I have something to look forward to, and it’s really nice to have a running partner! Good luck with your own fitness pursuits!
